Day 4 – Adcock Gorge & Galvans Gorge

Today we visited two gorges: Adcock and Galvans.

We first went to Adcock, where we had a swim and then morning tea on the rocks. Adcock Gorge is a lesser know, quieter spot – with a deep green pool, a small waterfall, rock ledges, ferns, and grassy edges. The trail walk was short and relatively easy, a pretty lily pond along the way. The road to get to the trail head though was quite rough.

Then we went to Galvans Gorge, where we swam some more before having our lunch. Galvans Gorge is more easily accessible so apparently busier. A larger pool with falls big enough to sit on the rocks underneath for a massage! It was also only a short, mostly flat walk to get there. Once there we did climb some rock walls to see some Aboriginal art.

They’re both great spots for a swim but I liked Galvans more. The water there was warmer.

We met a group of French young people there who had been in Australia for the last 18 months on working holiday visas and since Covid had decided to travel around the country. They seemed to be having a great time and were in no rush to leave the Kimberly – or Australia for that matter. Very friendly bunch.

Today we were back at the campsite not long after 3pm so we had plenty of time to relax and read our books before dinner.

James cooked a Moroccan chicken and couscous dish, and Jerry made some damper using the camp fire. Best damper bread I’ve ever had!

At briefing time about the plans for tomorrow, Jerry announced that we will leave for a hiking to Manning Falls at 6am – that is, we’ll need to be up around 5am for brekky at 5.30!

The trail will start at the campground where we’ll need to cross a creek at the back of the campsite in order to join the trail path at the other side. Jerry said it’s better to arrive early to avoid having to line up for the plastic blue barrels to float our gear across the water while we swim.

Swimming across a river with all our gear at 6am! It sounds a little scary and the thought of it makes me shiver! Cold or fear?

Better not think about it. We’ll see to it tomorrow. Now headlights off, I’ll get some sleep. Good night.
