BAY OF FIRES LODGE WALK – 26-29 January 2023

Hi everyone. I’m finally back to report on a new mini adventure. Still in Australia, this time in Tasmania, an island territory on the eastern coast of Australia.

I’m in Melbourne right now, hanging out with my friend Kel before flying to Tassie on Sunday to meet my friend Julia who’s doing the walk with me. This is quite special actually, as we’ve been planning for years to do a walk together. Finally, the opportunity has presented itself.

Julia is a longtime friend I met in Perth when we were both pregnant with our first child. She has since moved to Queensland so we don’t see each other as often anymore. But we still keep in regular touch by phone and video calls. Nothing like spending some quality time together though doing something we both love – walk in nature.

We’ll start our walk as part of a group on Thursday 26/01. The walk goes for 4 days, the 3rd day will include some kayaking. It’s not supposed to be hard, as it’ll be only a few days and short distances. Having said that, there’ll be some long sand walks along beaches and some rocky cliffy stretches as well.

As opposed to my last walk though (Larapinta) we’ll do it in style. Yes, we’ll rough during the day, including carrying a full pack with all our personal stuff in it (clothes, toiletries, first aid kit etc for 4 days) plus food and water, but we’ll sleep in comfort in proper beds with fresh linen, have hot showers and sumptuous dinners cooked for us at the lodge on our return each day.

It sounds amazing, not my usual hiking situation, but I’m not complaining:) The huts have been purposefully built in an environmentally sound way, in the middle of nowhere and only accessible on foot, so we’ll be surrounded by nature and silence only.

I’m attaching a map of our walk itinerary so you have an idea of where we’re going:

Thanks for checking in and following us! I’ll keep you posted – live or soon afterwards.
