Freycinet Walk Day Three

Day three was Easter Sunday and we had Easter eggs with our hot hearty breakfast.

After breakfast we transferred to the secluded Bluestone Bay for the start of our 14 km walk. But let me show you a bit more of our lodge accommodation before covering today’s walk.

A few pics of one of the two huts where our bedrooms were. Each hut had 4 bedrooms, as well as a little lounge area with a log fire.

Now, back to our walk today. We explored the fascinating geology of Bluestone Bay and White Water Wall before climbing to the cliff tops.

As usual we had a couple of stops to recharge. First, a cookie stop:

Later, a proper picnic lunch stop:

We walked back to the lodge following an ancient track through sacred bushland once followed by the Oyster Bay Tribe and now used exclusively by the Friendly Beaches Lodge guests.

Before we started on the sacred track we had our boots scraped by our guides to avoid contamination of the land and as a sign of respect.

This headland is home to a stunning array of native plants, including giant grass trees.

We continued along the white sands of Friendly Beaches…

Before arriving back at the lodge where cool drinks and homemade scones awaited for us.

And later fresh oysters! Not my cup of tea, but I had to try one!

And later still lamb shanks and polenta for dinner. Yummy!

The weather today changed as we walked. It seems we had all seasons in one day: bright and sunny to start with, windy at the cliff tops, misty and chilly along the beach in our way back to the lodge.

It was a great day and it’d have been perfect if it weren’t for the fact that I didn’t get a chance to see my nephew Leo who was living and working at the Freycinet Resort nearby.

He did drive to the lodge to see me today but couldn’t find his way through the bush from the gate to the entrance to the house! And of course having no internet he could not GPS or call us for directions either 😦
